Age Is Just a Number

“Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty-one years. He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and followed the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left.”
‭‭2 Chronicles ‭34:‭1‬-2 NIV

“Age is just a number!” I’ve heard that phrase said in laughter, most often coming from two people who are dating with a significant age gap. When I heard someone say that recently about a romantic partner, it made me laugh to realize that God holds the same mantra.

In the Bible, there are countless examples of God choosing people to make a difference despite the human weaknesses that may come from youth or old age. 2 Chronicles 34:1-2 tells us the story of King Josiah, whose achievements are still remembered today as he destroyed many idols of the Israelites, rediscovered the Book of the Law, and set the temple in order.

On the other end of the spectrum, there are countless examples as well. Sarah was well beyond childbearing years when God granted her a son. Anna the prophetess is described in Luke 2:36 as “very old,” yet she worshipped at the temple day and night and got to meet her Messiah face to face – as a baby! – before she died.

To God, age truly is just a number and human construct. His plan for you and your life prevails, despite your age. No matter what limits you see for yourself on this planet, God has the power to overcome them all.
