His Leaf Does Not Wither

Like many of you, gardening is one of my favorite summer hobbies. With no thought at all, I run down there multiple times a day to make the rounds, tidy up plants, and ensure all is well. The morning after planting my peppers this weekend, I saw some huge bug chomps in several of the plants. It's crazy how many things can happen overnight in a garden, usually things of the negative variety. If I'd been away, or not checking daily, I could have possibly lost an entire row of peppers.

I strive to treat the Bible with the same amount of ease and enthusiasm as my garden, maintaining my soul daily to avoid rot, damage, and pests. I don't often succeed at this, because it takes more effort for me to crack open the Word and take a good look at myself than it does to fix plants. But I know the results will be priceless. I think of Psalm 1:2-3, which says:

". . . his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, that yields its fruit in season, and whose leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers."
