Jesus: The Door

“I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.”
John 10:9 LSB

In the same context that Jesus calls Himself The Good Shepherd, He also refers to Himself as the door of the sheep. Not only does He watchfully and tenderly care for His sheep, He also guards the door from enemies and leads His sheep to green pastures. Jesus is the door to all that is good, and the only door by which such riches may be attained and everlastingly enjoyed. He is the door to heaven itself.

Imagine you want to go see your favorite sports team play at their home stadium. Jesus owns the stadium, the team, and every ticket to every game. Only those with tickets have access to the stadium and games. He gives season tickets only to His people, and there is a list bearing the name of every season ticket holder. Only Jesus knows who’s on that list, but He gives tickets freely to those who ask. All tickets are paid in full at His own expense. Tickets are non-transferable and cannot be sold. If you have these tickets, you own them for life. The tickets never expire and can’t be lost. If you wander away from the stadium, Jesus goes so far as to personally shuttle you back to ensure your secure entry. Jesus also works security and removes anyone without a ticket. Some might try to break into the stadium or steal people’s tickets. They might even try to scalp counterfeit tickets outside the stadium. However, their efforts will ultimately be unsuccessful. If you already have a ticket, it changes your perspective. You won’t be looking for scalpers because you already know that they cannot offer you what you already have. As a ticket holder, you already know that tickets can’t be sold or exchanged and that anyone claiming otherwise is a liar. You desire to point people to the true ticket distributor (Jesus) and away from the scalpers (false teachers). As a season ticket holder, you know that the stadium is the best place to be, with all the best concessions, all the best views, and best of all, your team wins every game. You also know that all of this was provided to you in Christ, by His grace and for His glory.
