Run, Don’t Walk!

“I run in the path of your commandments, for you have set my heart free.”
‭‭Psalm ‭119:‭32‬ ‭WEB

I have what is sometimes called a “boring” testimony of faith, as I was raised in a Christian home and never had to break many rules to realize the reason they exist. I got a clear glimpse of that subtle “Dead End” sign on the godless road and decided I didn’t need to venture that way. I see vividly how following God’s commands has brought me nothing but freedom and I’m sure this verse rings so true for those of you with more dramatic testimonies as well. Unbelievers may assume Christians follow God’s rules out of duty, leading to bitterness and resentment. Picture a headlong pelt downhill - your legs pumping so fast you can't control them yourself. A mad dash across an airport toward a long awaited loved one, arms spread wide. A sweaty final push toward a glorious finish line, limbs trembling from the exertion of a race complete. What a beautiful thing it is when we’ve seen what a worldly life has to offer and we choose not to walk, or plod, but RUN the other way toward Jesus and true fulfillment.

No matter who runs our country or our workplace – or despite the various ways we might feel “tied down” in life – the freedom mentioned in Psalm 119:32 is a freedom of the heart. It can persist despite any circumstance – poverty, loss, unpopularity, loneliness, betrayal. In fact, it thrives in such circumstances. This is why we choose not to walk, but to run toward Christ daily on this wild adventure of life.
