Generous Love
Acts 2:42-45 -“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.”
About a month ago, our microwave started to go… We continued to use it, giving it a few encouraging “taps” but as of a couple days ago it stopped working entirely. When I went home for lunch today, I perused the fridge and realized that I’d need to go back to the office if I wanted to use a microwave to heat up my leftovers.
I was frustrated as this was going to be the third appliance we’ve replaced in the past month! This led to a conversation(definitely not an argument) between my wife Trish and I about whether we should buy new or search facebook marketplace for a used microwave. We came to the conclusion that I would order a new one and she would search the used market until it arrived in case a deal landed in our lap…I had my doubts!
As I collected some leftovers to take back to the office, Trish piped up and said someone was selling a brand new microwave about 15 minutes away… And it was someone in our church! “Seriously?!” I got on the phone with this friend who immediately said… “You can have it”. I was blown away! As I sit and reflect, I am incredibly grateful for the way God continually provides for my family and for the community of believers we are a part of who (not perfectly but) faithfully demonstrate His generous love toward others. Thank You Lord!
