Redemptive Advantage
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
John 10:10
Alright, I’m putting myself out there… You’ve probably thought it too… Sometimes being a christian in today's world feels like a disadvantage. I've definitely caught myself thinking… “If I wasn't a Christian it would be so much easier to… fit in, make money, excel in my career, or just enjoy life…”
Recently, I heard Gabe Lyons use the term “redemptive advantage”, which flips that idea on its head. As Christians we actually have an advantage in all areas of life. To know God, his character and his plan to redeem all things changes everything for the better. All too often we try to engage with the world in ways that are rooted in pride or wrong motives. This leads to us looking for people, things, or experiences to give us what only God can. When we give into the lie that we can find something better apart from God, we ultimately end up enslaved and unsatisfied. But, when we have a right view of God and the world around us we are actually able to engage with and enjoy the things of this world in the way God intended, with him at the center, instead of trying to make them something they are not. This is the redemptive advantage that allows us to live life to its fullest potential. Redemptive advantage can apply to literally anything in the life of a believer from doing dishes, to playing sports to running a business. God has given us all that we need for an abundant life! Do you believe this? How silly are we to think that it can be found somewhere other than in Him.
