The Wisdom of Sunflowers
1 Timothy 4:7b-8 - "Train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come."
After studying passages that mentioned godliness, I felt confused as to what exactly we are called to do. We can never be equal to God. We can't be exactly like God. What IS godliness?
I found the answer in sunflowers. When sunflowers bloom, they follow a process called heliotropism, where they actually turn their faces to the sun on its daily path across the sky. No matter where the sun is, watch your sunflowers. They will be looking right at it.
I believe this is a very strong metaphor to the word "godliness" and what we Christians should strive for. No matter what chaos surrounds us, what pests are destroying the garden or what the weather is like, where do our eyes go? Where are we looking for guidance, strength, and sustenance? Sunflowers have the answer. Look to the Son.
