We are Heirs

“I don’t want to be a princess anymore!” My three year old daughter flew past me in hysterics. Moments before, she’d donned a pair of ballet shoes, a tutu, and a sparkly headband with the utmost care, but now they flew in all directions as she ripped them off on her flight to the bedroom.

I ran to her, surprised by my own level of distress. It warms my heart when I see my child dress in her “royal” clothes, and to see her discard them so quickly after a tea party gone wrong truly saddened me. This made me contemplate my own position as a “royal.” How must God feel when we abandon our title as ‘heirs’ and ‘sons’ as soon as life gets hard? Romans 8:17 says, “Now if we are children, then we are heirs – heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.” We glorify God when we claim our identity in Him, and call upon him in times of need! When life gets hard, straightening my crown and calling out to my Father should be my first instinct, not my last.
